Two years ago when the Toronto Raptors won the Atlantic division I was as surprised as everyone else. The Raptors played well that year winning consistently, but no one would argue that they clearly overachieved as they were a young team still trying to come into their own after their rebuilding project was set into motion when they traded their superstar Vince Carter and hired General Manager Bryan Colangelo. The Atlantic was considered by most as the doghouse of the East. With the 76ers acquiring All-star power forward Elton Brand, and the Raptors making their big move this summer to acquire the 6-time All-star Jermaine O’Neal to fill their gap at the Center position, the Atlantic division is now clearly the powerhouse of the Eastern Conference potentially housing three of the top 5 teams.

Swirsky says when he signs off from his FAN afternoon show at the end of the month, many thoughts will rattle around in his mind. But what he’ll miss most are his adopted city and country.

“The one thing I’m going to miss, and this sounds corny but it’s true, I love the makeup and the mosaic fibre of our city. I love the electricity of the city,” he said.

“I’m really going to miss the people. I love the country. I will never say one negative thing about the country, the city, the Raptors, because I’m leaving on a high.”

Swirsky may have shown a bit more enthusiasm for a Raptor dunk than an opposing one, but he made the broadcasts fun and gave you reasons for watching or listening even if you didn’t live and breathe NBA basketball.

He will be missed.
