The Idaho Stampede announce they will be hosting open player tryouts for the upcoming season. The camp will be held in Toronto , Canada on October 5-6 at Humber College . Tryouts start promptly at 6 p.m. on the 5th.
“This is such an invaluable opportunity for our team and a great way to fill our roster,” said Stampede Head Coach, Bryan Gates. “We are thrilled to be heading to Toronto and it would not be possible without the help from the Raptors organization.”
Open tryouts offer athletes an opportunity to showcase their talents in front of Stampede coaching staff, including head coach Bryan Gates. Players will compete to earn an invitation to the Stampede’s official Training Camp, which is scheduled to begin November 14.
The three players we lost were a very big part of our team last season, as Ford and Nesterovic were even part-time starters last season and Delfino was one of the few Raptors that actually showed up in the playoff series last season. The players we brought in to replace them are all unproven at the NBA level, as even though all four of the newcomers have had varying levels of success in European leagues (or Baston’s case Australian Leagues) they are completely unproven at the highest level.
I think one of the bigger reasons for Toronto’s success last season was because of their depth, and they really sacrificed that mainly in the Jermaine O’Neal trade. I know they had limits because of the salary cap, but they could have added one good veteran SG/SF in place of two borderline NBA players in Adams and Soloman.
44, 51, 69, 42. Those numbers represent how many games Jermaine O’Neal played in during his last 4 seasons in Indiana. I wouldn’t expect him to play 82 games, mainly because in 12 seasons he never has. And maybe that’s the key. The Raptors organization and its fan base should go into the 2009 season with realistic expectations. At the same time popular opinion seems to have written him off so much that he’s probably capable of more than a lot of people realize. And it was not that long ago (2007) that O’Neal was a candidate for the Defensive Player of the Year Award.
That the French cuff-loving Bryan Colangelo, president and general manager of the Raptors, is one of those expected at the unveiling, later this week, of the new Platinum Club at the Air Canada Centre. Not only will guests at the party get to see what a $1.8-million renovation looks like, they’ll also get to check out eats from the new ACC executive chef Robert Bartley, who recently jumped there from the kitchen at the Four Seasons.

Maybe it’s because my fantasy football teams are all doing extremely poorly after I had very high expectations of them.. but is anyone else feeling a deep sense of oh.. I dunno, “dread” for the upcoming Raptors season or is it just me?
I CAN’T WAIT for the season to begin!
I now have cable television AND I don’t have to scream at TJ Ford on nearly every play. Of course, there is still Joey Graham… but hopefully he won’t play very much.
However, do I feel like there is a lot of risk associated with this club, this year? Absolutely.
